HOW TO INSTALL ORACLE JDK IN UBUNTU 14.04 LTS

Follow the steps to successfully install Oracle JDK in your Ubuntu 14.04.

To check if Java is already installed:

java –version

If the above command returns “The program java can be found in the following packages”, then it means that Java hasn’t been installed, so execute the following command:

sudo apt-get update

To install any versions of the Oracle JDK, first execute the following commands:

sudo apt-get install python-software-properties

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

sudo apt-get update

Depending on the version you want to install, execute one of the following commands: (example) Oracle JDK 7. Oracle JDK 8 is the latest stable version.

sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer

Click Yes, The installation continues

Now check the version of Java installed.

To make sure that you are running the correct version of Java, execute the following and set your preference.

sudo update-alternatives –config java
